It’s disappointing to learn that some people in our lives are dry wells. It’s even more painful to realize that those we want the most to be there for us - family members such as spouses, parents, brothers, sisters - may be unavailable for what we need. But it’s important to recognize the truth about these people so we can stop going to them for what they cannot give. It’s foolish going back to a dry well for water.
I spent many years years to heal the difficult relationships with my father and my two sisters.
Even when I left home at fourteen, and went on my own. Everything I did accomplish since then, I had this thought in my head, “Oh! If he only knew how well I did at work and at my night school! He would be proud of me. One day, I had bad accident at work. The machine I was given was unsafe to operate, and top part, which weight was 500 pounds was blown off from the pressure. It hit me, and I fell in the tiled floor. My scull was cracked, and I was in surgery, and then in ICU for a while, when finally
in a hospital bed, semi-conscious. My family was notified at one point, and one day my father walked in. He sat down on my bed, and started to talk about all the arguments that he had with my step-mother.
That was the moment when I said….”poor man, he is so self absorbed that he has nothing to give to me
I made that decision… if I want a pat on the back, I have to be first, the well full of fresh water, and attract people to my life who have the same well.
Who are the dry wells in your life? Have those names on a piece of paper, and burn it.
After that make a list of people who are available to you when you need. Read those names, put the list on your wallet, and everytime you’re in need of cool refreshing water of love and support, refer to them.
Thank you and welcome to do it.
